Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our journey with Acorns has been one which we could never have predicted when we started our family. No parent wants to hear the words "children's hospice" but when you are faced with the reality, they become the family you never knew you needed.

Acorns has become a home from home for our family over the last 2 years - a supportive and protective space throughout the hardest times of our lives. They cared for our beautiful Ben at the end of his life, supporting us in our ongoing grief whilst helping us also care for our youngest son Reuben, born in April 2020 with a rare neurological condition. Together, they are helping us find the strength to keep going for all three of our amazing children and make positive lasting memories.

In addition to providing excellent medical and therapeutic care for the children they look after, they provide holistic care for the whole family offering support to parents, siblings, grandparents as well as vital respite for carers. As parents we know that Reuben is in the best possible hands when he has respite breaks and value being able to take him for regular hydrotherapy and music therapy as well as sensory play sessions. Lydia enjoys exploring the beautiful gardens and crafting time with her sibling worker.

This pandemic year has added another layer of challenge for vulnerable children and their families who rely on Acorns in so many ways and Acorns have continued to be there as much as possible during this time despite facing its own challenges. We want to keep this incredible charity going for all those children in need of their specialist care.

We will be taking part in Acorns Bubble Rush this year in memory of Ben and in support of Reuben and other children with complex and life limiting conditions.
